Designing and bringing your kitchen to life can be a challenge no matter the size of the space you’re dealing with. With so many styles of cabinets, hardware, drawer and cupboard sizes, making room for all of your appliances is a difficult task. Here are five simple steps to make your job a little easier!

Step 1:Kitchen Function

The first important question is are you building new or renovating? If you’re building new you might want to consider where you place your kitchen in the house. Another thing to consider is what your function of the kitchen is. Do you have a small family? Will you be entertaining a lot? Do you want an open concept? These are important factors to consider.

Step 2: Your wants

This is your list of must haves, and where your dream really comes to life. Do you want an island in your kitchen? Does your dream kitchen have a built in coffee machine? Maybe you’ve wanted marble counter tops for years. This is where you list all of that.

Step 3: Floor and Wall Plan

This is where you will need your measurements, this will include where you would like your appliances to go and your cupboard placement. This is also where you can plan your storage well. Take into consideration what you would be storing in the first place. A utensil drawer, maybe a pantry, a lazy Susan corner cabinet, you want to make sure you have enough room for everything you might need!

Step 4:Electrical and Lighting  

Here you will need to plan your outlet placement and where and what kind of lights you would like in your kitchen. Do you want a hanging light above your kitchen sink and pot lights through the rest? Don’t forget about the big outlets for the fridge and stove.

Step 5: Put your plan into action!
