An Eco Home is a home that has preserving the environment at its top priority. These green homes are built to be environmentally friendly. They source products that are sustainable,recycled, renewable, and use efficient energy. In Canada it is said that over 40% of our greenhouse gas emissions come from household consumption.

How could having an eco-home benefit you? When building your new home you can have a clear conscience that you are saving our environment rather than harming it. Green homes are beneficial to you. Not only will it impress your guests, an eco-home will also save you money on bills in the long run as they generally have a lower water usage and use less energy in the home.

Some key things to look for when building your new Green Home is to check and see if the products or companies have a green certification; for example if they are Carbon Neutral,Rain forest Alliance Certified, or FSC certified (Check out our previous blog post!).

Some other small things to do in your home to help our planet and reduce your carbon footprint if you aren't building new is get your energy from a renewable source, maintain your heating and cooling systems, and be mindful of your day to day habits ( e.g. use less single-use plastic).
